Tour Itinerary

DAY 1 - Overnight flight to Europe.
Refer to 'Preparing for your Departure' in your Final Documents for easy check-in procedures. Take time to relax on your trans-Atlantic flight with the assurance that Image Tours has taken care of all the details.

DAY 2: GERMANY.. Arrival at Frankfurt Airport - Nuremberg.
Upon arrival at Frankfurt Airport, clear Passport Control and collect your luggage in baggage claim. Refer to your 'Arrival Instructions' page in your Final Documents for directions on where and when to meet your tour manager. Then, settle back in your comfortable motor coach for a ride through the Main River Valley and into the heart of the Franconian Wine Region on the way to Nuremberg. After check-in, freshen up and relax a bit before the 'Welcome to Europe/ Get-acquainted' dinner at the hotel. (Dinner)

DAY 3 - GERMANY . . Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber - Nuremberg.
Your bus transfer into the city center introduces you to the history and charm of Nuremberg. Hitler staged his propaganda rallies here, and after his fall, Nuremberg was chosen as the site of the famous War Trials. For further information, visit the Documentation Centre at the sight of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds (€6 admission fee). If you prefer a lighter subject, enter the Toy Museum (€5 admission fee), celebrating Nuremberg's tradition as the 'city of toys'. Spend the afternoon in the enchanting, medieval village of Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber. You will feel as if you are walking into a fairy tale when you see the well-preserved walls, cobblestone streets, distincitive inns, and whimsical Christmas shop of Käthe Wohlfahrt's 'Weihnachtsdorf'. Return to your hotel for an authentic German dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 4 - GERMANY . . Munich & AUSTRIA . . Kufstein/Filzmoos.
Travel to the Bavarian capital of Munich for a panoramic city tour, including views of the Olympic Village, the Bohemian district of Schwabing, and the Königsplatz. Enjoy free time in the pedestrian-only 'old town' where modern department stores have been skillfully grafted amidst historic buildings. In the summer, the tour departs Munich at 1:00 p.m. to allow time for a stop in Berchtesgaden with the opportunity for a thrilling tour of the Salt Mines (€20 per person). In September, this tour makes a lunch stop at Munich's world-famous Oktoberfest Fair Grounds. As you cross the border into Austria and drive through the province of Salzburg, admire the mountain-fed rivers and flower-laden meadows. Arrive in the village of Filzmoos or Kufstein and enjoy Austrian hospitality over dinner at the hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 5 - AUSTRIA . . Kufstein/Filzmoos and the Alps.
The day is at your leisure. If you enjoy hiking, choose from an abundance of mountain paths with awe-inspiring panoramas. Or, simply relax in your Austrian village amidst the boundless splendor of the Alps. If your interests are culture and history, consider joining the optional 'Salzburg & Eagle's Nest with Dinner' excursion. (Breakfast)

DAY 6 - AUSTRIA . . Innsbruck - Stubaital Valley.
Admire the glorious scenery during your drive through Tyrol, stopping in an Alpine ski resort village and driving along the Gerlos pass (elevation 5070 ft.) before reaching Tyrol’s principal town and capital, Innsbruck. This imperial city is known for its Golden Roof, built in 1500 with 1,399 gilded tiles as a royal box to view entertainment in the square below. You will have time to shop for the famed Swarovski Crystal and to explore the old city center with the Maria Theresien Boulevard, Triumphal Gate, and exquisite Imperial Church. A short distance from Innsbruck lies
the Stubaital Valley, where you will spend the next two nights in a chalet-style hotel. Choose a local restaurant for your independent dinner or join the optional 'Tyrolean Show & Dinner' for a light-hearted presentation of Austrian folklore, music and dancing. (Breakfast)

DAY 7 - AUSTRIA . . Neuschwanstein Castle - Linderhof Palace - Stubaital Valley. This day is devoted to two magical landmarks in the southern most tip of Bavaria. Traveling through the Alps and just over the German border, begin the day with a visit to the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, model for the Disney castle. A 30-minute walk up hill and a 45-minute tour scaling several winding staircases is rewarded by a fascinating look at the castle's intriguing interior. Stop for independent lunch at one of the snack shops or restaurants along the path leading down from the castle. In the late afternoon, visit the French rococo palace of Linderhof, including a walk through the gardens and a guided tour of the extravagant interior. Via the majestic Seefeld Pass, return to your Stubaital Valley hotel for dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 8 - AUSTRIA . . Innsbruck Ski Jump, LIECHTENSTEIN . . Vaduz & SWITZERLAND . . Lake Lucerne Region.
Before leaving Innsbruck, make a stop at the state-of-the-art Ski Jump providing spectacular views while honoring the winter Olympic Games, which were hosted by Innsbruck in 1964 and 1976. Depending on the weather, depart Austria by way of the Silvretta High Alpine Pass or through the engineering masterpiece of the Arlberg Tunnel. Either way, the destination is the tiny principality of Liechtenstein. Following a leisurely visit, cross the border into Switzerland, and travel into the Lake Lucerne Region, where you will spend the next two nights amidst a setting of mountains and lakes. DAY 9 - SWITZERLAND . . Stans - Lucerne - Lake Lucerne Region.
Begin the day with a stop in the old village of Stans, at the foot of the mountains. Bring your camera if you decide to take the optional 'Swiss Mountain' excursion, during which you will enjoy some of the most incredible alpine vistas. A few miles further, along the lake, lies Lucerne. You will have a full afternoon to discover Lucerne's covered bridges and many other special treasures. Return to your cozy Lake District hotel for an included Swiss Dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 10 - SWITZERLAND . . Zurich - Schaffhausen Rhine Falls & GERMANY . . The Black Forest.
After your Swiss breakfast, travel north to Zurich for a morning visit to this vibrant and culturally rich city. Continue the short distance to the impressive and powerful Rhine River Falls, near the town of Schaffhausen where an extended visit allows time for lunch and an opportunity to view the falls by boat (approximately $10.00). Your journey will then return you to Germany to spend two nights in the renowned Black Forest. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 11 - GERMANY . . Black Forest.
Escape modern life and behold the natural beauty in the rustic villages nestled between the tranquil Titisee ('see' means 'lake') and the thickly wooded mountains. The day is at your leisure to hike, swim, or bike. This is also your time to shop for authentic, hand-carved and hand-detailed Black Forest Cuckoo Clocks. In the afternoon your tour manager will offer a fun and scenic 'Black Forest Tour & Dinner' optional excursion. (Breakfast)

DAY 12 - GERMANY . . Freiburg - Heidelberg - Rüdesheim.
Visit the prominent Black Forest town of Freiburg on the way to historic Heidelberg, idyllically situated in the Neckar Valley. This famous university town is immortalized in the operetta 'The Student Prince'. Walk through the old town or take the funicular (€5.00) for a close-up look at the ruins of Heidelberg's red sandstone castle. Continue to your hotel in Rüdesheim; located in the center of the Rhine Wine culture and known for its festive appearance and lifestyle. Independent dinner provides the chance to try an autumn custom of 'Federweisser' (feather wine) with 'Zwiebelkuchen' (onion cake) while experiencing Rüdesheim's tradition of live music and merriment. DAY 13 - GERMANY . . Rüdesheim.
A full day in Rüdesheim provides the opportunity to walk along the picturesque Rhine River promenade and the enchanting Drosselgasse, the main shopping street. You may also wish to join the optional 'Rhine Cruise & Cable Car' excursion presenting magnificent views of the Rhine River Valley. Tonight's 'Farewell Dinner' at the hotel is a fitting time to celebrate the highlights of your journey. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 14: Daytime flight back to the U.S.A
Transfer to the Frankfurt Airport for the return flight home. (Breakfast)
