16-Day Heart of the British Isles Tour

Below is a brief summary of the itinerary. For a full description, see "Itinerary". The hours in parentheses ( ) indicate time on the motor coach between stops.

DAY 1 - Overnight flight from the U.S.A to London.

DAY 2 - Arrive at London's Heathrow Airport. Meet your tour manager and travel (1 hr) to Oxford. After a stop in Oxford, continue (1¼ hr) to your Coventry hotel for a 'Welcome/Get-Acquainted' dinner. (Dinner)

DAY 3 - Travel (1 hr) through the Cotswolds to Stow-on-the-Wold, a picturesque and charming village. Then it's on to Stratford-Upon-Avon (¾ hr). Free time for lunch and viewing of the birthplace of William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway's cottage. Optional afternoon excursion to 'Warwick Castle'. Return (½ hr) to your Coventry hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 4 - Motor north (1½ hr) via the Nottingham area and on to York (1½ hr). Ample free time for visiting the famous York Cathedral, enjoying lunch and individual exploration of this historic city. In the late afternoon, transfer (1¼ hr) to your Darlington hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 5 - Morning drive (1½ hr) to photo stop at Hadrian's Wall. Make a stop for an 'English Tea' with cakes and finger sandwiches. Cross into Scotland (1¼ hr) to the border town of Jedburgh, with opportunity to visit the Mary Queen of Scotts House or to shop at the 'Jedburgh Woollen Mill'. Continue (1¾ hr) to Edinburgh for a 2-night stay. Optional 'Scottish Dinner Show' excursion. (Breakfast, English Tea)

DAY 6 - Meet your local guide for a sightseeing tour of Edinburgh (2 hrs). The afternoon is free for further individual exploration, shopping and leisure in Edinburgh. (Breakfast)

DAY 7 - This morning, motor (2¼ hrs) to Gretna Green for a visit to the 'Old Blacksmith's Shop'. Re-enter England en-route (1¼ hr) to the lakeside village of Grasmere for a lunch stop. Continue to the shore of Lake Windermere (¼ hr) for a ferry ride. On to Cheshire County (2½ hrs), where dinner awaits you at your hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 8 - Experience the landscapes of Northern Wales, via Llangollen (1 hr), Betws-y-Coed (1 hr), Snowdonia National Park (½ hr) and Caernarfon (½ hr), with a view of the castles built by Prince Edward I. After a lunch break, cross the Menai Bridge (¾ hr) for a photo stop and continue (¾ hr) to Holyhead for the two hour ferry crossing from Wales to Ireland. Transfer (¾ hr) to Dublin. Dine on board the ferry or upon arrival at your Dublin hotel. (Breakfast)

DAY 9 - A local guide will accompany you around Dublin during your morning sightseeing tour (3 hrs), ending with a visit inside the Trinity College Library to view the Book of Kells. The afternoon is yours for individual pursuit. Optional 'Irish Dinner Show'. (Breakfast)

DAY 10 - Travel (1 hr) to the Kildare National Stud Farm and the Japanese Gardens of Tully House. Continue into western Ireland (2 hrs), to one of the country villages for an independent lunch stop. In the late afternoon arrive (1½ hr) at your Killarney hotel. Two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 11 - Spend the day at leisure in Kerry County or Killarney town. Or, take the optional 'Ring of Kerry' excursion for breathtaking views and picturesque stops with total travel times of 2 hrs before lunch and 2 hrs after lunch. Return to Killarney for independent dinner. Optional 'Pub Crawl with Dinner' excursion. (Breakfast)

DAY 12 - To Blarney (1½ hr) for a visit to village and castle. After independent lunch, travel (2¼ hrs) to Waterford for an afternoon arrival and time to explore the town or participate in the optional 'Waterford Crystal Experience' before dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 13 - An early departure is necessary to reach (1¼ hr) Rosslare, ferry to Pembroke, Wales. Travel (2 hrs) along the coastal road to Cardiff for a panoramic tour and free time or optional 'Cardiff Castle' excursion. Transfer (½ hr) to your hotel in Newport. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 14 - Cross the mouth of the River Severn back into England (1½ hr) and to the Roman Spa town of Bath. Tour the Roman Bath Museum. Then continue (1 hr) to mysterious Stonehenge. Proceed (2½ hrs) to London for a two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 15 - Morning sightseeing tour of London (3 hrs). The afternoon is yours for independent sightseeing. Optional 'Tower of London' afternoon excursion and 'London Dinner & Theater' evening excursion. (Breakfast)

DAY 16 - Transfer (1½ hr) to the London Heathrow Airport for the return flight to the USA. (Breakfast)
