TRAVEL TIME ON THE MOTOR COACH
12-Day London, Paris, & Rome Tour
Below is a brief summary of the itinerary. For a full description, see "Itinerary". The hours in parentheses ( ) indicate time on the motor coach between stops.
DAY 1 - Overnight flight from the U.S.A. to London.
DAY 2 - Upon arrival in London, meet your tour manager and transfer (1½ hr) to your hotel. The balance of the day is yours to become familiar with the hotel, the surroundings, and the nearest tube (Underground) station before the welcome dinner at the hotel. Two-night stay. (Dinner)
DAY 3 - Full day in London, starting with a guided sightseeing tour (3 hrs) in the morning, featuring such famous sights as Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, and more. The afternoon is free for the pursuit of individual interests. Optional 'London Dinner & Theater' excursion. (Breakfast)
DAY 4 - Transfer (¼ hr) to the train station. In less than 3 hours, the high-speed Eurostar train will take you under the English Channel to the French coast and onward to Paris. Time to get acclimated in La Ville Lumiere (the City of Lights), before transferring (¾ hr) to your hotel. Optional evening 'Paris Dinner & Cabaret Show ' excursion. Two-night stay. (Breakfast)
DAY 5 - Free day in Paris to pursue your personal interests and . . . of course, shopping at the renowned Parisian boutiques, department stores and open air markets. There's also an optional 'Seine River Cruise' in the morning, with views of Notre Dame Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. For dinner tonight, venture out on your own, or join the 'Paris Evening' optional. (Breakfast)
DAY 6 - A full-day of travel through France's Burgundy Wine Region, with rest stops near Auxerre (2 hrs), Beaune (2 hrs), and Mulhouse (2½ hrs). Twenty miles southeast of Mulhouse, lies the busy Rhine River Port of Basel, situated at the conjunction of France, Germany and Switzerland. At Basel, cross the border into Switzerland and head south (1½-hr) to the beautiful Lake Lucerne Region. Two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 7 - Short ride (½ hr) to the mountain resort of Stans this morning, with opportunity to take an optional 'Swiss Mountain' funicular ride. On to Lucerne (½ hr) for sightseeing and free time. At 4:30 pm, return (¾ hr) to your Lake Lucerne Region hotel. For the evening, consider the optional 'Swiss Lake Boat Ride & Dinner' (½-hr transfer, each way). (Breakfast)
DAY 8 - This morning, travel south (2½ hrs) to Lugano, with its stunning lakeside setting against the mountains, referred to as the 'Rio of the Old Continent'. After the mid-morning break, cross the border into Italy, and travel (2½ hrs) past Milan to the area between Parma and Modena. After a rest stop, continue (2 hrs) to the laid-back spa resort of Montecatini-Terme. Two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 9 - Morning ride (1¼ hr) to Pisa, with its famous Leaning Tower. Around 11 am, leave Pisa for the beautiful Byzantine city ofFlorence (1½ hr), where a local guide will take you on a walking tour followed by free time. Toward dinner time, return (1 hr) toMontecatini-Terme, with its pastel-tinted buildings on palm-lined streets. (Breakfast)
DAY 10 - Motor south (2 hrs) through the enchanting region of Tuscany. After a mid-morning stop in the vicinity of Chiusi, continue (2 hrs) to Rome, also known as 'La Citta Eterna' (Eternal City). The afternoon is yours for orientation, exploration and relaxation. Toward dinner time, transfer (½ hr) to your Rome area hotel. Two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 11 - Morning motor coach tour of Rome with a local guide (3 hrs). This afternoon is free to pursue individual interests. There's also an optional afternoon excursion to St. Peters Cathedral and the 'Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel'. For tonight, strike out for dinner on your own, or join the optional 'Rome Dinner' excursion, including the return transfer (½ hr) to your Rome hotel. (Breakfast)
DAY 12 - Transfer (¼ hr) to the Rome Fiumicino Airport for the return flight home.(Breakfast)
